Habitat of Polk County Continues Development of Miracle Way

January 25, 2022 – Habitat for Humanity of Polk County has cleared 10 more residential lots on Miracle Way in downtown Livingston. The lots will be used to build decent, safe, and affordable Habitat homes for hard-working low-income individuals and families in Polk County. The lots were generously cleared by Chief Long King Resources, LLC and Ruby Cattle Company of Livingston to make ready for roads and utilities. Fundraising to bring in critical infrastructure will begin in 2022.

“We are excited to be able to continue developing the first Habitat neighborhood in Polk County. It was a dream that started nearly two decades ago by our founding Board,” commented Pat McCulley, Board President of Habitat for Humanity of Polk County.

The cleared lots will eventually hold 10 or more Habitat homes to be developed over the next five years. Homeowner applications for new homes will be accepted in March 2022. The initial phase of development started in 2006 and included five homes. The third and final phase will likely include up to 10 more homes and will potentially extend Miracle Way down to Bluebird Avenue.

“The end result of the project will be a complete Habitat neighborhood where families can find stability and safety together. We are currently working to find grant monies and will start to fundraise so that we can build the road and bring in water, sewer, and electricity. It’s a big project, but one that the Board and our devoted volunteers are committed to,” remarked Amy Borel, Executive Director. Habitat for Humanity of Polk County is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and builds homes for hard-working low-income families who are unable to qualify for traditional mortgages. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.  Habitat for Humanity of Polk County is funded through local donations to the ReStore, monetary and in-kind donations, and volunteer efforts.
